What is Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture? What Does It Do?

This is a holistic treatment that involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the face and body to promote skin rejuvenation in conjunction with overall well-being. By improving circulation of blood and Qi (energy) in the face and addressing underlying imbalances in the body that may contribute to skin issues and appearance complaints, acupuncture can help to improve muscle tone, stimulate collagen production, and enhance circulation to improve skin texture and promote a healthy glow. Working “from the inside out”, this is a series of treatments that aims to have long-lasting effects.

Furthermore, facial acupuncture may have a calming and balancing effect on the nervous system, supporting overall relaxation and a sense of rejuvenation.

Your First Session:

We are excited to have you for your first session, and here is what to expect:

Initial Intake - Medical health history and wellness goals.

After booking your first Bright Sky Acupuncture session, your first visit will include answering questions about your medical history, current symptoms, goals, and any other relevant information. Your Acupuncturist will then come up with a personalized treatment plan tailored to you and make recommendations on frequency of sessions, and may offer lifestyle or food recommendations just for you, that stem from the wisdom of Chinese Medicine.

Acupuncture Treatment

Lying down on a comfortable massage table, you will receive small acupuncture needles at specific points on your body. The number of needles varies but usually ranges from 4 to 20. The needles are left in place for between 15 to 45 minutes, depending on your needs, while you relax- listening to music, a meditation or in silence - depending on what you'd like that day. It is normal to feel mild sensations with acupuncture, such as tingling or a slight dull ache. Oftentimes, people fall asleep and get a great nap during a session. Your acupuncturist will answer any questions you have and can also remove or adjust any needles, based on your requests or needs. It is ideal to bring shorts and a tank top for your session. If needed, you will be draped with sheets in order to access parts of your body that require treatment. Your modesty is respected and your consent is required to treat any and all parts of your body.

Additional Techniques

Cupping, tuina (Chinese) massage, electro-acupuncture, moxibustion, light or heat (tdp) therapy may be added enhance the treatment, depending on your need and at the discretion of your Acupuncturist. These techniques can relieve tension, reduce pain, and improve overall well-being. If you would prefer a certain technique, please let us know and we’ll try to incorporate it if it is deemed to be beneficial for your health.

After Treatment

At the end of the session, we'll remove the needles. It is common to feel relaxed or slightly euphoric after an acupuncture session. You may notice improvements in your symptoms that day, or in a few days, or over time with regular treatments. It depends on your health, your issue, and your body’s response. After treatments, it is recommended that you hydrate, eat, avoid alcohol, and rest as needed. Try not to ‘overdo it’ for the rest of the day. Your body is still responding to the treatment after you leave!

If you have any questions about acupuncture or the treatment process, we'll be happy to chat before or after your session.

  • Blue light therapy for acne is a non-invasive treatment that utilizes specific wavelengths of blue LED lights to target and kill bacteria responsible for acne breakouts. The blue light penetrates the skin, reaching the sebaceous glands where acne-causing bacteria reside. When exposed to the blue light, these bacteria produce a toxic substance that destroys them. Blue light therapy also helps regulate sebum production and reduce inflammation associated with acne.

The treatment is generally well-tolerated, with minimal side effects, and can be combined with other acne treatments. Multiple sessions are typically recommended for optimal results.

FAQ’s

  • Acupuncture includes the insertion of extremely small (hair-thin) stainless steel ‘'needles’ at specific points on the body. Acupuncture is used to reach health goals - to support or relieve a health condition, improve mobility, improve appearance, and relieve symptoms like pain, hot flashes, headaches, dry eyes, insomnia, anxiety and many more.

  • Acupuncture activates carefully selected points on the body, known as acupuncture points or "acupoints."

From a scientific perspective, acupuncture is believed to work through several mechanisms. The insertion of acupuncture needles into specific points on the body stimulates sensory nerves, triggering the release of endorphins and other neurochemicals that alleviate pain and promote a feeling of well-being. Acupuncture may also modulate pain perception by activating nerve fibres that inhibit pain signals.

Additionally, it may influence neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine, which regulate pain and mood. The stimulation of connective tissues and the modulation of the autonomic nervous system are other potential ways acupuncture exerts its effects.

  • Acupuncture is generally not painful. Acupuncture needles are very thin, and we use gentle needle insertion at Bright Sky Acupuncture. You may feel a slight ‘poke’ or tingling - this is normal. Many people find Acupuncture a relaxing and restful experience. Having an "acu-nap" (a brief sleep or a feeling of deep rest) during the treatment is common.

  • Acupuncture is effective for a variety of health conditions, particularly for pain management. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes Acupuncture as a safe and effective treatment for various conditions, including chronic pain, headaches, depression, arthritis/joint problems, and digestive and gynecological disorders. The results of Acupuncture can vary depending on the condition being treated and the individual receiving the treatment.

Numerous studies have shown that Acupuncture can effectively treat various health conditions, particularly when used as a complementary therapy alongside conventional medical treatments. It's important to note that Acupuncture should always be performed by a licensed and experienced practitioner.

  • Facial acupuncture and Botox are two very different methods that strive toward the same goal - improving the appearance of the skin and face.

Facial acupuncture is a less invasive, more natural and subtle way of improving the skin and facial features — and we address the health of the face and body.

Facial acupuncture (with body treatment) can increase circulation, diminish wrinkles, brighten the complexion, and naturally reduce the signs of aging.

In contrast, botox temporarily paralyzes the muscles of the face to create an appearance of smoothness.

Acupuncture can not be done right after Botox (or fillers). We request that you wait 4 weeks after botox or 6-8 weeks after filler, to receive facial acupuncture or cupping.

Please inform us of your last injection date so we can best advise you on your treatment.

We understand that everyone chooses different methods for different reasons - we support you no matter what procedures or choices you have had. We are a judgement-free clinic!

  • Red light therapy for wrinkles is a non-invasive treatment that utilizes low-level red LED lights to stimulate collagen production and improve the appearance of facial wrinkles. The red light penetrates the skin, boosting cellular energy and promoting collagen and elastin synthesis. This process helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles, enhance skin elasticity, and promote a more youthful complexion. Red light therapy is generally safe and painless; multiple sessions are typically required for optimal results. We incorporate Celluma light therapy into all of our facial rejuvenation acupuncture sessions.
